I think you have missed this section of the article:
"Note that I’m looking at Stop Loss from an investor perspective in this article. Not as a short-term trader/speculator. Stop Losses might be useful if you are trading the news or doing some very short-term trading. Also, if you are leveraged or short-selling, Stop Losses can indeed be helpful in managing risk."
However, I would say that trading is a bad idea anyway, and stop losses won't save you. 99% of the traders will lose money in the long term. Why do it?
